Switch To DDR-II And Enjoy High Speed
In DDRII RAM modules there are 240 pins (golden fingers), which are connected to specific balls or leg of IC chip. Modules are made using X8, X4, X16 IC chips, but number of chips will vary according to chip type. For example if you want to make a 512 MB DDRII module by using 64X8, 64X4, 64X16 chip, than you should use 8 IC chips, 16 IC chips and 4 IC chips respectively. You can see that capacity of module is same but numbers of IC chips are varying.
DDR-II speed range varies from (400, 533, 667,800 MHZ), 400mhz is initial speed of DDR modules. In DDR-II SO DIMM (dual inline memory module) there are 200 golden fingers, where as In long DIMM modules we find 240 pins. In this generation, DDR2 memory modules are most commonly used due to its high speed.
A Motherboard will either support DDR / DDR2 or DDR3 memory module, no motherboard supports all three modules. In motherboard slots are given to fix the RAM. DDR Module can inserted only in DDR slot same as DDR2, DDR3 modules also can be inserted in specified slots, because number of Golden Fingers are different in all three modules.
In memory module storage capacity is shown in MB (Mega Bytes), According to capacity DDR2 RAM modules are of different types as 512 MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB etc. If you use computer for normal office work, for updating files, presentations etc than 512 MB memory is enough for you but if you need graphic functions, listening music, video clips, MP3, games in that case you need more memory so you have to go for 1 GB or more.
It is always be advisable to check the motherboard compatibility before buy DDR RAM for your computer. There are so many ways to check the system compatibility or you can even take experts help to check your system requirement and install RAM in your system.
